Turner Classic Movies announced today that they will honor iconic actress and comedian Lily Tomlin with a hand and footprint ceremony at the world-famous TCL Chinese Theatre IMAX in Hollywood during the 11th Annual TCM Classic Film Festival on Friday, April 17.
Tomlin is one of America’s foremost comediennes, and continues to venture across an ever-widening range of media, starring in television, theater, motion pictures, animation, video, and social media. Throughout her extraordinary career, Tomlin has received numerous awards, including: eight Emmys, with 25 primetime and five daytime nominations; a several Tony and Grammy awards and in December 2014, was the recipient of the prestigious Kennedy Center Honors in Washington DC.
Lily Tomlin’s talent has endured for fifty years because she knows who she is. She’s managed to play broadly drawn roles alongside more nuanced characters without a hint of falseness,” said Ben Mankiewicz, TCM primetime anchor and official host of the TCM Classic Film Festival.
To kick off the start of the 2020 Turner Classic Movies Classic Film Festival, on April 16, stars Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd and Lea Thompson, along with co-writer and co-producer Bob Gale are set to be in attendance for the 4k remaster world premiere and 35th anniversary of the seminal science fiction film “Back to the Future.”
This year the TCM Classic Film Festival runs from April 16-19 in beautiful Hollywood, California, and will have screenings throughout the area centering around the theme “Grand Illusions: Fantastic Worlds on Film.” Over four packed days and nights, attendees will be treated to an extensive lineup of great movies, appearances by legendary stars and filmmakers, fascinating presentations and panel discussions, special events and more.
Additional film titles for the Film Festival have been announced including: George Cukor’s “A Double Life” (1947), starring Ronald Colman and Shelley Winters; Cukor’s pre-Code comedic drama “Dinner at Eight” (1933), starring Jean Harlow, Wallace Beery and Marie Dressler; Alfred Hitchcock’s remake of his original 1934 thriller “The Man Who Knew Too Much” (1956); Jean Arthur and Charles Coburn in Sam Wood’s “The Devil and Miss Jones” (1941); and Alfred Santell’s drama “That Brennan Girl” (1946).
This event will mark the tenth consecutive year Turner Classic Movies has featured a hand and footprint ceremony at the legendary TCL Chinese Theatre IMAX. Last year, TCM honored actor, voice artist, comedian, singer, writer, producer, director, and television host Billy Crystal, with support from his longtime friend Rob Reiner.
Other honorees include Peter O’Toole, 2011; Kim Novak, 2012, Jane Fonda, 2013; Jerry Lewis, 2014; Christopher Plummer, 2015; Francis Ford Coppola, 2016; Carl and Rob Reiner in 2017, and Cicely Tyson in 2018.
