Inside Look: Waterways Cruises | Seattle Summer Must-Do

When summer hits Seattle, it’s like a new city, new vibes and much more energy. You’ll see beaches loaded, roller skating close to 24/7 and picnic getaways at the top of Gas Works Park often. That’s why when this grand city hits 70 degrees we pull out our shorts, summer dresses, sunglasses and take in all the has to offer.

One thing I recently indulged in on an evening on the beautiful Lake Union, was a dinner cruise aboard the fabulous Waterways yacht. Waterways Cruises offers a variety of cruises where both locals and tourists can see parts of Seattle that they may never know existed. Enjoy a leisurely stroll from Lake Union to Lake Washington while savoring a delicious four-course plated dinner.

The dinner cruise is a 2.5 hour cruise that all kicks off with a champagne toast and your own private table. This event is perfect for a romantic evening with your partner, a girls night out or even a work outing. During our time on the dinner cruise we met many people from a variety of ages, many were couples, while some were families and even a group of colleagues. All who seemed to be having a great time.

Upon entering the yacht we were shown to our table and offered glasses of champagne. Our hostess was fantastic and helped us to a wonderful evening. She told us a bit about the boat, where the restrooms are and about the bar upstairs, along with a large outdoor area to soak in those Seattle city views. Throughout the evening she often came to ask how our evening was going and made sure all was good with our meals.

Since we were celebrating a special time in our relationship we jumped on and grabbed the date night package, which included chocolate covered strawberries, a bottle of champagne and your table decorated in rose petals. It was really sweet that they offer this, and I’m sure it made my partners night. For those celebrating birthdays, they also offer a party package that includes a personalized cake, balloons and a bottle of champagne.

Our capitan did a fantastic job narrating the different sites as we passed them, sharing much about the history and also pointing out many large, mansion type homes, like the home of Bill Gates and the Amazon founder. That was pretty great to see.. something I wouldn’t have seen otherwise.

Our four-course dinner began with some warm bread for the table, served with tomato basil soup, the second course was a delicious summer salad with mixed greens, fresh strawberries almonds and a balsamic strawberry vinaigrette. For the main meal, you have your choice of entree, which I chose the pan seared chicken served with potatoes and a chicken leek glaze, my partner chose the grilled salmon served with asparagus and a honey garlic soy glaze. To top it all off we indulged in the creme brulee with honey vanilla whipped cream and a rolled cookie.

To say the least, dinner was fantastic. If you’re worried you aren’t able to finish it all just ask for a to-go box upon leaving and enjoy the rest for lunch tomorrow. That’s what we did and it tasted just as good the next day. There is also a vegetarian/vegan option.

The entire evening was as close to perfect as you can get, with thoughtful service, mouthwatering food, lovely cocktails and breathtaking views as we soar out into the distance, hand-in-hand watching the sun drop, glowing the beautiful city of Seattle.

Waterways Cruises also offers a variety of other cruises, from private events to Weekend Brunch Cruises. Check their cruise calendar to see whats available.
