Inside Look: Three Bears Cabins at Mt Rainier

Three Bears Cabins

Imagine snow falling outside while you sit in front of a comfy fire, a hot drink in hand and your favorite movie playing on the tele. That, hot tubs in the snow and a fully stocked kitchen await all who wish to stay at Three Bears Lodge in Ashford, Washington. A quaint town located at the entrance to Mount Rainier National Park.

Anybody in the Pacific Northwest who wants to see snow at wintertime knows to head into the Cascade Mountains. Mount Rainier is the closest destination of that kind to the big cities of Seattle and Tacoma, but you don’t have to stay in the official parks lodging to get the authentic mountain experience.

Three Bears Cabins

Three Bears Cabins offers a wide variety of cabins, that can fit mom and pop for a romantic getaway, and others that fit the whole family.

When my family flew down from Hawaii for the Christmas break, we decided to a stay in Mt Rainier was a near perfect getaway. We stayed at the Three Bears Lodge, which is one of the larger cabins, that can actually sleep up to 8! The four of us, one child and three adults, slept comfortably in this 1 bedroom and 1 loft cabin.

Located less than a minute from the Mt Rainier entrance allows for the benefits of being close to the area while not having to deal with the slopes or heavy traffic of getting around your residence. The cabin is right next to the main road for easy access in and out, but there’s also plenty of forest growth on all sides allowing for a reasonable sense of privacy.

The cabin itself is roomy and cozy simultaneously, with a loft-style second story and large open air dining room. There is also a spacious kitchen with all the fixings, so plan to bring food for lunch and dinner, but leave the dishes behind. For breakfast they got you covered with pancake/waffle mix, a waffle iron, and maple syrup. A full size fridge lets you bring as much food as you can fit, and a dishwasher to wash them clean at the end of the day.

There are two queen beds, three twin beds, and a two person futon, along with two bathrooms, so from a couple of lovebirds to a large family, Three Bears Lodge is easily accommodating to parties of all sizes.

There’s an outdoor fire for the rustic types, and an outdoor hot tub that can easily seat eight. The hot tub was an absolute wonder while the snow fell on our first night there. Don’t fret, there’s also a wire fence keeping out any wildlife that may wander by, and keep any pets you wish to bring with you in. And yes, it is a pet friendly lodging!

When you’re done exploring the mountain or playing in the snow, you can curl up in front of the stone framed gas fireplace, and watch any of the many movies on the entertainment shelf on the flat screen television.

There’s also an original Xbox for any retro gamers staying. Of course, you’re not limited to the library they provide, so you can plan ahead and bring your own titles. If you’re more inclined to modern streaming or general internet activities, there’s even a complimentary wifi and basic cable in the cabin.

In conclusion

From big crowds to small, the Three Bears Lodge is a perfect choice for any bear wanting to get away from the cities this winter and rough it out in the wilderness without actually living rough!

Easy to get to, fun to stay in, and close enough to the National Park, you’ll be all smiles from the time you arrive to the time you leave.
