The Isley Brothers delivered a fun night of classic hits at the Emerald Queen Casino I-5 Showroom in Tacoma. Filled with soul even at their age, the band has been a staple of the music industry since their seminal 1959 single ‘Shout!’
In a career spanning sixty years, there’s no shortage of great songs from their archive to hear. From familiar classics like ‘Twist and Shout’ and ‘Between the Sheets’ to covers like Sam Cooke’s ‘What a Wonderful World’ and Bob Dylan’s ‘Lay Lady Lay,’ the show runs through their entire discography and contains more genres than you would think from a soul band.
Lead singer Ronald Isley shows right away he can still command a room, and has the stage presence to capture the attention of those even in the back row. He jokes with the audience, and keeps the mood light, occasionally lapsing into a spur of the moment ten second rendition of a Ray Charles tune to show off his musical knowledge.
Lead guitarist Ernie Isley plays with the ease of an experienced showman, and at times sounds like the second coming of Jimi Hendrix. At times he plays with his teeth or behind his back, but those tricks are just window dressing to the fact that he is an excellent player.
You can catch The Isley Brothers next in Ontario, California, as they perform a special Mother’s Day event on May 11.
The EQC event calendar is always packed full of fun events. This is our second concert at the Showroom and the venue is just hopping! Since the Showroom doesn’t have stadium seating and seats are situated in a side-by-side layout with VIP upfront; there isn’t a bad seat and everyone seems close enough to the stage to see the action. Plus, there are two large screens on both sides of the stage for added viewpoints.
Upcoming events that are worth checking out at EQC is: Chris Janson, April 5; Cheech & Chong, April 20; Wayne Brady, May 11 and Keith Sweat on May 17th.
Whether you’re in the mood for old-school, rock and roll or just a good time, the EQC has you covered!
