Inside Look: Mayflower Park Hotel

Mayflower Park Hotel

Seattle has quite a history, and we’ve already shared a little bit about it in previous Inside Look features. The Mayflower Park Hotel is one of those special gems from the city’s golden age. Built in 1927, it’s one of the last remaining locally owned hotels in the area.

Today, the Mayflower Park Hotel is managed by Seattle natives, Mr. and Mrs. Dempcy. After purchasing in 1973, they restored the hotel and today still continue to be involved with its operation.

Celebrating its 92nd anniversary next month on July 16, this European-influenced hotel is centrally located on Olive Way and 4th Ave. Situated just steps from the downtown mall, light rail station, Westlake Center, and a 7-minute walk to popular Pike Place Market, there’s few other lodgings that can boast of such easy access.

Upon entering the lobby we were greeted with a grand crystal chandelier, and instantly noticed a wide variety of historic pieces, such as a grandfather clock, marble accents and mail slots behind the front desk.

We stayed in a deluxe guest room which was noticeably very spacious and decorated in a Queen Anne-style, and included all the basic necessities. There is a large living area which has a couch and chairs laid out around a table with some reading materials.

Next to the living area is a beautiful armour chest that has a few drawers and a television. The bedroom area included a king size bed and a large walk in closet with plenty of closet space that connects to the bathroom.

After a long day of exploring the city, we ordered room service for a light snack. It’s always so enjoyable to get fine dining delivered right to your room. The Mayflower Park Hotel has two dining establishments on site, so you don’t have to go elsewhere to fill your hunger.

The main dining area is the Mediterranean restaurant, ‘Andaluca,’ and they offer breakfast, lunch and dinner. Award-winning cocktail bar ‘Oliver’s’ sits next to the lobby, and is a small gathering space for drinks and bar bites.

The Mayflower Park Hotel is the only Seattle member of Historic Hotels of America, an organization that includes over 200 other historic hotels around the country. To hear more about the history and personal stories of the Mayflower Park Hotel, check out the Images of America paperback.

If you’re looking for a change from those chain hotels, this locally owned piece of the city’s past offers valet parking, decorative rooms, complimentary wifi, and award-winning dining all in a prime spot in downtown Seattle.
