Founded in 1851, most Seattleites know that their city has a rich history, and located on the corner of Cherry Street, The Arctic Club is no exception. This beautiful historic piece of architecture has quite a unique story behind it.
The Arctic Club, built in 1916, provided an exclusive social community for those Seattleites who had returned from the Alaska Gold Rush with money in their pockets and a repertoire of stories to tell about their adventures in the Yukon.
One of Seattle’s most prominent architects, A. Warren Gould, designed this eight-story building decorated with fine Alaskan marble coordinators, ornamented cornices and beautiful chandeliers.
Upon entering the lobby, you’ll wander into the Polar Bar, which instantly takes you back in time with its stylish leather and velvet decor. We stayed in a king balcony room on the eighth-floor, which was quite spacious and perfect for an evening in.
The room included a lovely balcony overlooking downtown Seattle. The balcony is shared with other guests on the floor, but has dividers that allow for privacy. The room decor sports deep blue and orange-brown colors throughout. One of my favorite additions was the whirlpool tub, which makes for a relaxing soak to unwind at the end of a busy day.
Every room boasts similar decor details and includes the basic necessities: coffeemaker, hair dryer, television, mini fridge and safe. Also included is a small basket filled with snacks, drinks and even an adorable stuffed walrus to purchase!
As for dining, the hotel has a couple options located on property. For breakfast and lunch, the JUNO Restaurant, located on the ground level, is a great choice and opens as early as 6am on weekdays and 7am on the weekends. They also have a full dinner menu that ends at 10pm. The Polar Bar, located on the lobby level serves drinks and bar bites from 3pm to midnight. Room service is also an option, for those wanting to take it easy the next morning.
