Call of Duty WWII: Keeps It New, Fun & Satisfying

Call of Duty: WWII The Resistance

The franchise of multimillion selling fame gets back to its roots with a return to the battlefields of the Second World War. And boy, what a refreshing turn it is to play a Call of Duty in its natural habitat of 1940’s Europe! You almost forget how much fun it is to shoot Nazis when you neglect it for a decade.

Not only is this new installment a breath of fresh air after the genre of the modern warfare shooter being beaten into the ground since 2007, but we’ve never seen a World War II era shooter on the modern consoles. Until now, that is!

This game looks glorious on the Playstation 4, and probably even better on the Playstation 4 Pro. The details of the soldiers guns, uniforms, and the environments is so rich you’ll start to think you’re watching a film when the cutscenes are rolling. There’s even a real movie star in there, Josh Duhamel!

The game offers a great campaign full of fun new environments to explore through and period accurate submachine guns that take you back appropriately to the time, and the atmosphere of these older battlefields and styles of war is a welcome change of pace compared to previous entries in the series.

There’s a heavy cinematic feel to the campaign, which includes a not coincidental nod in the opening to one of the great WWII films ‘Saving Private Ryan’ as your character storms the beaches of Normandy on D Day. It’s no easy feat either, blazing headfirst into the Nazi war machine, so be ready for heavy resistance in your adventure!

Then there’s multiplayer, the main reason most players probably invest in COD every year. While many of the modes are returning ones from the many past editions of the series, the grounded, down to earth style of the second World War is a much needed refresher after the fantastical futuristic weapons and jetpacks of Black Ops 3 and Advanced Warfare.

There are new modes such as the War Mode, and local couch co op options for Nazi Zombies and most of the multiplayer modes, another element that seems to be left out of most modern games, unfortunately.

Call of Duty WWII will satisfy both old fans of the series looking for something to reinvigorate it, casual newcomers to the series who want to see what all the fuss is about it, and even those who just want a throwback to what got the series off the ground back in the day.
