For nine years, Can Can has delighted and spooked hundreds of Seattle-goers during the This Is Halloween cabaret show at The Triple Door. This year they’re back and with one week left before Halloween they are ready for the final week, and all that’s missing is you!
Follow the misadventures of Jack Skellington in this dark fantasy musical adaptation of Tim Burton’s “The Nightmare Before Christmas.” Weary of his usual terrifying antics and no longer seeing a point in scaring people, Jack takes a walk through the forest that will change Halloween Town forever. When Jack stumbles upon Christmas Town, full of beautifully decorated trees and a warm spirit, the plot thickens.
This Is Halloween features Can Can’s signature cabaret and burlesque performance stylings, accompanied by a wonderfully eerie live orchestra, spooky vocal performance, and spellbinding multimedia.
Last Friday, we got a taste of this uniquely wonderful performance. It’s filled with amazing costume design, dancing, singing and even some risque moves by both the men and the ladies.
It is the perfect night out and is definitely one of those “keep the kids at home” events. For those of you that are a little uneasy on those type of performances, it’s a show for mature adults, but is not over-the-top when it comes to mature viewings.
The performance does an excellent job pulling audience members in by using the off-stage seating area for several segments of the show. For example, the night kicks off with the live 10-piece orchestra walking through the crowd on to the stage to their seating area. Another great example is during a solo performance by Quinn Tierney Vaira (Sally) when she sings about her love for Jack Skellington.
This is Halloween isn’t played by a big cast, and that makes it special. You have a chance to get a good connection to each character.
Tim Keller, who plays the main character, Jack Skellington, does an outstanding job from dancing to singing. Dave Crellin, takes on the part of Oogie Boogie, and really gets a laugh out of the crowd with his naughty intentions and ways. The additional cast ensemble really pulls everything together and makes for an spooktacular night to remember.
