The Seattle Mariners have been turning heads this season and I am proud. Last season even when the Mariners weren’t at their best we still went our to support them, after all they are a great team of friendship, dedication and hope. This year the Mariners have something special for the fans out there.. lets say it has been 20 years in the planning. Seattle Mariners, Turn Ahead the Clock Night promotion is happening once again June 30 at Safeco Field!
Die-hard Mariner fans remember back in July 1998, 20 years ago, at the Kingdome, the Mariners and fans traveled to 2027, facing the Royals dresses in ‘futuristic’ uniforms, backwards hats and featuring a special appearance by the DeLorean (of the popular Back to the Future).
However, the best part wasn’t the uniforms, or the DeLorean, it was the fans. More than 42,000 fans crowded the Kingdome to attend this special futuristic game. Fans that were proud of their Seattle team. Especially with a 8-5 win from the Mariners.
Today, 20 years later, on June 30, 2018, the Seattle Mariners will once again travel to the year 2027 and face the Royals at Turn Ahead the Clock Night. To celebrate this special anniversary and unique event the first 20,000 fans receive a futuristic (replica of what the team will be wearing) Mariners cap, thanks to Alaska Airlines.
- The ball for the ceremonial first pitch was delivered to the mound by a robot, which was designed at the University of Washington.
- First pitch was thrown by James Doohan (Scotty from Star Trek) and drove to the mound in a DeLorean.
This is just some of the awesome things that happened at the Kingdome 20 years ago. Who knows what futuristic fun the Mariners will come up with this year. All I know, is it’s going to be an amazing thing to see and those giveaway hats are pretty epic! I can’t wait to get one for myself.
So for the Back to the Future fan or Seattle Mariner fan, or even just someone looking for a fun Saturday night head down to Safeco Field, grab yourself a red futuristic cap and cheer on your local Seattle Mariners. I know I will!
Tickets start at $19 and up. Go on.. grab your tickets for the game HERE.
