Our 2019 year in review is a wonderful recap of everything we did. To look at it in numbers, we traveled over 15,000+ miles and visited 6 countries!

By the end of 2018, we thought visits to the Portland Comic Con, Victoria, San Francisco, Hawaii, and Hong Kong would have been hard to top. But this year gave us quite a few unexpected trips! Take a peek at our year in review below. We’d love to hear your thoughts on what your favorite adventure was.

January

Our first month of the year involved little jaunts to places relatively near home. We drove to Portland, and of course we had to get a box at Voodoo Doughnuts! But the real highlight of the trip was getting to interview Rob Paulsen of Animaniacs Live, and checking out the Studio Ghibli Retrospective at OMSI.

Later, we went up to Canada to see Vancouver’s sights, and got some fantastic views of the mountains in Squamish.

Eventually, we got a wintertime look at Lake Chelan, including a stay at our favorite spot The Lookout, and checked out their annual Winterfest.

February

February’s big event was going to Mt. Baker, and staying in a comfy Mt. Baker Lodging cabin amongst the snow in the community of Glacier Springs.

We also saw the first big movies of the year, like The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part, and How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World.

March

March was our first month of great ambition. We began by visiting Mt. Hood, and staying in the rustic Hood River Hotel. We also managed to squeeze in a stay at the beautiful Loews 1000 Seattle in downtown.

Back in Seattle we got the first taste of the year of the Seattle International Film Festival, with the Animation Show of Shows short films showcase.

But the centerpiece trip we were anticipating was our flight to the United Kingdom. We got a stupendous taste of England, riding a train up to Liverpool to see the home of The Beatles. Later we went back down to London, and among all the great sites of the city, got to see the smash hit Wicked on the West End stage.

April

In April, baseball season began for both the major league Seattle Mariners, and their minor league team in Tacoma, the Rainiers. We enjoyed catching a few games!

Shortly after we took a quick weekend trip down to Los Angeles to attend the Turner Classic Movies Classic Film Festival. There, we saw some of the greatest movies of all time on the big screen, right in the heart of Hollywood.

Some movie highlights from the festival include seeing classics remastered on the big screen such as: Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Sound of Music, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Holiday and A Raisin in the Sun.

May

May was another month stuffed with events to see. We got to see An Evening with the Clintons, and live shows of Mac DeMarco, School of Rock: The Musical, Teatro Zinzanni’s Love Chaos & Dinner, Death Cab For Cutie, ODESZA, Art Garfunkel, and the Seattle Rock Orchestra.

We also managed to check out some neat hotels like Inn at the Market and the Arctic Club in Seattle and attend Star Wars Night with the Mariners.

Additionally, the summer movie season got underway with Avengers Endgame, The Hole in the Ground, the Aladdin remake, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and A Dog’s Way Home.

June

The big event kicking off summer for us was in Ashland, at the world famous Oregon Shakespeare Festival where we saw some lovely plays including MacBeth, Alice in Wonderland, Mother Road and even stayed at the Lithia Springs Resort.

Back home, the Seattle International Film Festival kicked off, and we saw movies both foreign and domestic, the highlights being Them That Follow, The Art of Self Defense, and Official Secrets. Other films we saw in the month included Rocketman, When They See Us, Glass, and Toy Story 4.

Some end of the month highlights include Throwback Night with the Mariners where we stayed at the historic Mayflower Park Hotel and attending the Four Seasons Housewarming Gala. We even got to see Sublime with Rome live at Marymoor Park on a hot summer night.

July

We decided to start July off with a theme of going out to see nature. In the former logging town of Leavenworth, we got an intimate view of the great outdoors while staying at the KOA Campgrounds. We enjoyed sup boarding on Lake Wenatchee and later we paid a visit to the majesty of Mt. St. Helens.

We also went back to Mt. Baker Lodging for a summer visit and hiked around the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest where we saw snow in July due to the high elevation!

In between seeing such live shows as the Dirty Projectors and the Charlie & The Chocolate Factory musical, we had the pleasure of having our first guidebook published! We also had the honor of staying in the Presidential Suite at the Westin Seattle.

For movies, we managed to catch Yesterday, Annabelle Comes Home, Spider-Man: Far From Home, the Lion King remake, and Once Upon A Time…in Hollywood.

August

August saw us revisiting Lake Chelan in the summer to check out the newly renovated The Lookout. We enjoyed berry picking at Blueberry Hills, wine tasting and enjoying Lakeview Drive In burgers and milk shakes under the summer sun on the lake.

We even caught some movies like Crawl, Missing Link, and The Kid Who Would Be King. However, we spent most of the month preparing for our long awaited trip to central Europe!

September

Like we said, September’s big event was our trip to Europe, where thanks to Air Canada, we got to see the illustrious cities of Berlin, Prague, and Vienna.

When we got back, we caught some live shows at the Washington State Fair of acts like Boyz II Men, Foreigner, and Daryl Hall & John Oates. We checked out the Doubletree by Hilton Southcenter for a short stay.

We also caught the early fall blockbuster movies It Chapter 2, and Ready or Not.

October

In the month of Halloween, some of our highlights included a spooky brunch at Salty’s, the grand opening celebration for Bowlero at Southcenter and the Halloween ball at McMenamins Elk Temple.

In terms of movies, we had a jam-packed month, seeing Joker, The Addams Family, Gemini Man, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, Zombieland: Double Tap, The Current War, and Doctor Sleep.

We even got to check out the Tacoma Film Festival, and see such movies as The Infiltrators, and Koko-di, Koko-da.

November

To begin the season of wintery weather, we figured a trip to the jewel of the northwest Mt. Rainier was in order. We even got to stay in the Treehouse at Wellspring Spa!

But the big event for us was a weekend down in Cancun, Mexico, at the Seadust Family Resort, for a quick escape from the cold to cerebrate Andrew’s birthday!

We managed to see movies like Last Christmas, Parasite, In the Tall Grass, A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, The Irishman, and Knives Out.

December

We wanted to finish the year with some fun live performances to see, so we were sure to catch Five Seconds of Summer, The Chainsmokers, and both the twisted version of the Nutcracker, The Hard Nut and the original Nutcracker from Pacific Northwest Ballet. We managed to spend one night at the Thompson Hotel in Seattle to check out their venue.

For some holiday fun we listened to carolers at the annual Figgy Pudding Content. To come we’ll head to our favorite overnighter at Three Bears Lodging in Mt. Rainier, and we enjoy the Enchant holiday light display at T-Mobile Park on Christmas Eve.

We also made sure to catch up on some movies such as 21 Bridges, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Cats and Frozen 2!
